Today, we have an opportunity. It is the opportunity to start something big… Bigger than ourselves or our immediate work. The opportunity is one to be passionate, to live for Monday, today, right now. We have this inherent greatness in us, just begging to be released into the world. Because, you see, when we display the courage to stand out, the courage to be extraordinary, we are giving permission to and inspiring those around us to do the same.
I love the concept of the ripple effect. I love it because I know that today I (or you, or we) can take immediate action to change the world. How? By starting with me. If my work today can inspire just one other person, I will have been successful. In turn, that one other person can inspire those with whom she is in contact. And then they can inspire the people nearest and dearest to them. So, you see, our actions on this Monday are not simply affecting us. They are affecting the world around us. They are changing the trajectory of the lives of others. They are creating a ripple effect.
On one hand, we have the case I spoke of above, where being passionate becomes cool and changing the world becomes a mandate. In this case we go about our day, taking inspirational, passionate action towards our dreams and by doing so we empower and inspire others.
On the other hand, we have the case of ‘the Mondays’ where we give ourselves an excuse to extend our weekend relaxation period by one more day. We spread the idea that on Monday, it is just too hard to get going, to do great work. And today fall is in the air, which just makes us want to crawl back in bed! That ripple effect spreads too…
So the question becomes: what kind of ripple effect do we want to spread on this beautiful, fall Monday morning?
With every little passionate action, we encourage others to find their footing, grab hold of their crazy dreams, and set out on a journey to start a ripple effect of inspiration. And just like a stone thrown in water, the circles are concentric – the effect of our little action to wake up, love life, and live our values and passion becomes ever so important. Not just to our lives, but to the lives of people we have never even met. Powerful stuff, huh? For more inspiration, Google ‘Our Deepest Fear by Marianne Williamson.’
So, what do you think? When is the last time you saw the ripple effect in action? Who is somebody that really inspires you to spread great ideas and live passionately? Please share in the comments!
