Ah, I heard this term ‘Independence Day’ on the Internet Business Mastery blog the other day and I couldn’t help but laugh and identify with it to some degree. Of course, I’ve heard the term before in reference to July 4th, etc, but in these terms, we’re talking about the first day of self-employment. Actually, today could probably be more accurately referred to as my first day of self-em-poor-ment, but still, it feels good.
It is really a weird thought… waking up without a need to shave, with no commute in front of me, with nothing standing in my way to building something great aside from my lizard brain, and with endless opportunities to think and write and create and build. Which is scary in many ways. There is nobody to answer to, which means I am directly accountable for every decision, big or small. There is a limited supply of funds that may or may not get me through the next six months unless I create income. The market has not proven it needs my services.
And yet with all of the uncertainty and challenges ahead, I am still excited, still rearing to go, and I still believe that I have an obligation to go out today and share with the world everything I have in me. I have an obligation to work incredibly hard to bring great ideas to light and spread them so that no one has to go another day without them.
If you think about the areas around which I am building my business – writing, coaching, consulting, speaking – they are all ambiguous, they are all broad terms which apply to so many specific actions, they are all uncertain with no sure-fire path to success or revenues… Which means this business venture is really a partnership with you, the reader, or you, the business person, or you, the entrepreneur, or you, the college student, or you, the retiree. I need all of you and anyone else who I missed to partner with me on this. To help spread great ideas, to TELL ME when I am headed down the wrong path or when you disagree and, most importantly, to have a conversation.
This business will be all about conversation. Conversation between me, with so much to learn, and you, from whom I can learn so much. I hope you’ll help. I hope you’ll engage. I hope you’ll spread my posts, and e-books, and hard-books, and courses, and ideas, and services. I hope you’ll help… because if I don’t have you , then the business is ultimately pointless. This isn’t about me. This is about us. This is about creating a conversation and moving forward together. And without you, there is no us. I want to know what I can do for you. I want to know what you want to know more about and I want to go find those ideas and bring them back here, to this place, or to a webinar or course or coaching session. I want to work hard for you. So please, help me do that, help me by telling me what kind of information is valuable, what posts intrigue you, what ideas you can’t get enough of and what ideas you could do without.
I’ll be migrating this blog to its own site soon, with a new name, a new design, a new URL, and, most importantly, with more, better, easier to access resources. I’ll be ramping up my marketing efforts, and I will be providing huge value. In fact, I will be offering a lifetime program to those people who are willing to invest their time and connect with me first… The early adopters, if you will. So stay tuned – the first 25, 50, 100 people to engage will receive great benefits for the entirety of my entrepreneurial life and beyond. Because I know I need you more than you need me.
