Do you ever hear yourself saying something and then think… “Wow, that was such a great thing to say in that moment. It was exactly what needed to be said and exactly what the audience needed to hear.” But, it might have been just a bit hypocritical…. I don’t exactly follow my own advice on a daily basis. But that’s ok, it’s still good advice.
I am guilty of it from time to time. I know I am. And I would bet that everyone has said something, “preached” something if you will, that they don’t live by. I have thought often about this, as it is something that any good leader or Christian should work to battle (in my opinion). And I was reminded of this conversation last week at church when our pastor, Wiley Stephens, delivered a powerful message around living it vs preaching it.
So, my challenge to you today is this: consider what you preach and what you say to others. And think about how much of it you follow. To what extent do you live in such a way that others will want to follow you and in turn live in their own similar way.
Now don’t get me wrong, this is hard. And its personal. Only you can decide how you will live and on what values and principles you base your life. But it is worth it. It is powerful. We need more people in this world living in such a way that others are inspired to act in a similar fashion. And we need less preaching to others on how to live their lives…. particularly when we may not be living based those words ourselves.
So today, start living it.
