… To live the 23rd of December, 2010. There will never be another 12/23/10. Never. So what have you done today that makes today worthy of its uniqueness?
I don’t mean that you should skip work to go on a hike. But maybe you should. Or maybe you should just do the best work that you’ve ever done in your life. And maybe I should too… I’m not entirely sure that I’ve done everything I can to give everything I’ve got to this day. But I need to, because this is my only chance to make a mark on this day.
I want to wake up everyday and have this attitude… One of thanks to God for another day and one where I do not allow myself to waste. Only you know what a wasted day is. If you need a day of laying on the couch and devouring a good book… do it. If you haven’t done community service in years – go do that. Or maybe just play with your kids, or clean the house, or start on that scrapbook you’ve been meaning to put together. Just do something so that 12/23/10 doesn’t turn into 12/24/10 and so on without you even knowing where the time went. Life is precious – and at this time of year when family is so accessible and the holidays give us reason to be thankful, make the most of it.
I’ll leave you with this quote that I found on an agenda a team put together for the Leonard Program as I was cleaning out my apartment yesterday:
This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; In its place is something that you have left behind… Let it be something good. – Author Unknown
What have you left behind today?
